This picture is the entrance to the EHNRI facility. There are several research labs on site including a Polio research lab, animal Science Lab, the Ethiopian equivalent to our FDA, and a TB research lab ( this lab is researching multi-drug resistant TB)

Multi-drug resistant TB presents a great challenge to researchers. Hopefully technology (equipment/analysis software) can assist in making progress.
Craig J. Vercher's Post:
I was wandering how you and the Ethopians are communicating with one another. Do you speak their language. If the results have been being recorded on paper how did they keep track of their results in order to reference them later
All of the participants are bilingual and have at least their 1st degree (BS degree). Many have their master degree (2nd degree) as well. Even the Ethiopian speakers present in English. We present in English and their booklets are in English as well as the Instrument procedure manuals. I am learning a few words. All of us on the ASCP team purchased traditional dresses/shawls to wear to a dinner & party last week. The dinner was wonderful and then we we were treated to dancers who performed regional dances in traditional costumes- it was beautiful. There are about 12 different regions; we saw 6 different performances.
Yes, MDR-TB is a great challenge almost everywhere. This researcher is working to combine stains which will allow him to detect sensitivities that until now have not been detectable. Fasinating!
It looks like you are having fun while teaching. Is it harder teaching over there than here? I've read that everyone is bilingual so you donot have a conflit with communication.
