Return to Namibia for Post-Training Assessments

I am returning to Namibia with a colleague, Beverly, to perform post-workshop assessments to measure the effectiveness of our workshop training on improvements in medical laboratories.  We work closely with Mathew at the Namibia Institute for Pathology (NIP).    NIP is a private, non-governmental organization whose mission is to support laboratory services throughout Namibia.  The organizational plan is for ASCP (with NIP) to select laboratories; perform pre-workshop assessments - facilitate the workshop - perform post-workshop assessments.  The overall goal is helping Namibian laboratories  improve the quality of their lab services (accurate and reliable patient test results) and work toward earning Internaltional Accreditation.  For monitoring purposes, we are using the WHO SLIPTA checklist to assess the competency of each lab in 12 different areas of quality systems throughout laboratory processes.
On this trip we will be assessing 6 laboratories throughout Namibia, 2 Regional Laboratories and 4 District  Laboratories.  The pre-assessments for all 6 labs was done June 2011; the BLOT II (Basic Laboratory Operations Training II) workshop was held February 2012; our foll-up post-assessments being conducted  Oct 2012.  During the BLOT II workshop, each of the 6 labs developed a Quality Improvement Plan to implement upon returning to their home labs.  At each lab, Bev and I discuss the progress made on the QIP and address challenges that may have stopped the project in addition to assessing the laboratory on each of the following checklist sections:
1.  Records and Documents
2. Management Reviews
3. Organization and Personnel
4.  Client Management & Customer Service
5.  Equipment
6. Internal Audit
7. Purchasing and Inventory
8. Process Control & Internal and External Quality Audit
9. Information Management
10.  Corrective Action
11. Occurrence Management & Process Improvement
12.  Facilities & Safety
