Here I am getting ready to have my blood drawn by a phlebotomist at Deral de Mavalane Hospital in Maputo!

Traveling Tommy is my version of Flat Stanley (who goes to different cities, countries, schools via mail and has his picture taken with others so that students have an insight into other cultures and places). Traveling Tommy is a tribute to one of our sons who died a few years ago. He shared my passion for science, lab, and community service, so to keep his memory alive, he travels everywhere with me because he wanted to be a part of what I do. When I took him to Tanzania with me last year, he was nick-named "Juma", adopted, and remains there in different laboratories. I receive pictures from time to time showing me what improvements and advances in the lab and in education the Tanzanians are and continue to make with Traveling Tommy (TT) in the pictures! I will be posting pics of TT at the conference in Nairobi shortly!

This is amazing how you are so involved with this around the world. You send a good message and i think its great when we can share our knowledge of healthcare with the rest of the world because we are the most advanced in the world!
