Day 1 in Windhoek, Namibia

Our objective on this trip to Namibia is to do a post assessment at the 3 hospitals we performed a pre-assessment on in May 2010. These hospitals are working to earn international accreditation status for their laboratories. Through ASCP we delivered a BLOT (Basic Laboratory Operations Training) Workshop last May. We toured Windhoek Central Hospital Lab today. The lab has successfully completed 2 Improvement Projects and staff moral and excitement is readily apparent from their accomplishments!

Our NIP (Namibia Institute of Pathology) colleague and host, Mathew took Beverly and I to an authenic Namibian restaurant for lunch. I am including pictures of the lab and of our delightful lunch!! The Chief Technlogist at the hospital lab, Douglas, is also in the picture along with Mathew, me and Traveling Tommy!

Namibia

I am off to visit Namibia, on the western coast of Africa. Last May, 2010, another colleague and I visited 3 different hospital laboratories and performed a baseline assessment for each to see where there were areas to improve upon to begin the process of earning accreditation for their laboratories. This trip other colleague and I will be performing a second assessment to monitor improvements and see how much closer the labs are to gaining accreditation!
Namibia is a gorgeous country. I will post pictures of the labs and surroundings throughout this week.
